Free iPhone Applications

The amount of and availability of free iPhone applications is quite impressive due to the amount of freelance and independent software designers that are creating them. Although the iPhone is relatively new technology, designers have formed applications for nearly every popular niche and topic. These applications have the ability to add immense functional value to this already groundbreaking technology.

Thankful for iPhone applications users, Apple has explicitly stated that they will not purposely release iPhone firmware upgrades for the sole purpose to “break” or cause third-party home grown applications to stop working. The only exception to this rule is applications that are designed to unlock the SIM of the iPhone. Doing so allows other cellular phone service providers besides for AT&T to become compatible with the iPhone. Apple has already and will continue to lease regular updates to the iPhone in order to limit and make SIM unlocking more difficult.

While many free iPhone applications are only for aesthetic reasons such as a changing the layout, style, or color of the iPhone’s interface, other applications add greater functionality, organization, and/or software to the iPhone. Many of these beneficial applications make use of the iPhone’s internet connectivity to further make online tasks easier.
